Sustainability

Our Management Assumptions and Materiality

1. Toward the Realization of a Sustainable Society (Management Assumptions)

The Company's management assumptions for realizing the Group Philosophy and Group Vision is "Respect for Humanity in the Workplace (Human)," "Enhancement and Strengthening of Governance (Governance)," "Contribution to Health and Beauty (Society)," and "Global Environmental Conservation (Earth and Environment). We will create corporate value and contribute to the achievement of the SDGs through the "H-E-S-G" cycle.

2. Materiality and Goal Setting Based on Management Assumptions

Based on the four management assumptions for realizing the Group Philosophy and Group Vision, we have identified the materiality that the Group should prioritize: (1) Employee growth, (2) Effectiveness of governance, (3) Consideration of the health and beauty of society,
(4) Consideration of the health of the Earth. We have also set goals for each of these four areas of materiality.

SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals)

The SDGs are 17 international goals set out at the United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development in September 2015 as targets to be achieved by 2030 in order to realize a sustainable, diverse, and inclusive society.
As a drugstore/pharmacy, our group has a sense of mission to maintain and improve public health in each region, and we are working on ESG related to our core business in order to exist as a corporate group that is indispensable in the field of health and beauty.

Commitment to Public Policy and Active Engagement through Industry Associations

MatsukiyoCocokara & Co. views climate change as a significant risk to community sustainability. We are committed to achieving “net zero CO₂ emissions and 100% eco-friendly PB products by the fiscal year ending March 2051.” We recognize that reaching these long-term goals requires industry-wide and societal policy support, not only from individual companies.
The Japan Association of Chain Drug Stores (JACDS) strives to advance SDGs across the industry by providing policy recommendations and formulating guidelines, including climate change measures, with the aim of achieving a sustainable society.
As a key member of JACDS, we fully support its policy and engage in its decision-making processes by dispatching executives and, on behalf of the industry, actively collaborate and cooperate with national and local governments regarding public policies and regulatory measures.
Moving forward, our Group will continue to work closely with JACDS and its member companies to lead advocacy efforts regarding public policies aimed at realizing a decarbonized society, thereby fulfilling our social responsibilities as Asia’s No. 1 drugstore chain.
